Medicinal Chemistry-I

Objectives:

Understanding fundamental concepts governing the relation between chemical structures of drugs and biological activity. Provide knowledge about the chemistry, biological activity and molecular mode of action of chemotherapeutic agents.

Contents:

Theoretical

Physical and chemical properties of drug in relation to biological activity including absorption, distribution, drug-receptor interaction, Hansch QSAR equation, drug bio-transformation. Chemical structures, biological activity and molecular mode of action of Chemotherapeutic agents including; antibiotics (semisynthetic and synthetic), disinfectants and antiseptics, sulfonamides, antimycobacterials, synthetic antimalarials, antifungals, antiamoebics, anthelmintics, antiviral agents and antineoplastic drugs.

Practical

Manipulation of pharmacopeias, limits tests, selected monographs. Computer aided conformational and cofigurational analysis of some pharmaceutical compounds.
